I’ve been in a bit of a funk for a while.
Any Infertile knows how this feels… Nothing seems to be going my way, and with failure after failure weighing me down, I needed a win.
Even if I had to buy one.
So, a few weeks ago, I signed up for the POPSUGAR Must Have service.
.
Basically, it works like this:
- You sign up for whatever length of time you like: 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year. I signed up for 3 months.
- You pay per time period: 1 month is about $35, 3 months is slightly less per month, 6 months is less than that, etc.
- In the middle-ish of each month, POPSUGAR emails to let you know that they shipped out a mystery box to you! They do this once a month for each month you’re committed to the service.
- You receive said mystery box, full of goodies chosen by POPSUGAR’s savvy editors, and you squeal and jump up and down and clap your hands because OMG, you guys, it’s like you have a SECRET PENPAL who sends you awesome PRESENTS!! 😀
Yesterday, my first mystery box arrived.
When I got home from what had turned into a really LONG and exhausting day at work, I was pretty stoked to see this little beauty on the kitchen table. Naturally, I dumped my purse in the hall closet, put on my stretchy pants and fuzzy socks, and ripped that sucker open like a kid on Christmas.
I love that the whole thing was gift wrapped, which made it special and more personal. As I started inspecting each carefully selected item, I was more and more in love with this service.
It might be old news to say that retail therapy makes me happy, but this is a whole different ballgame than picking up some Cadbury eggs and a Soap Opera Digest at the impulse-shopper kiosk at Kroger.
This came to my doorstep, and is full of practical items I will actually use, and some fun little splurges that I might like in the store, but not actually purchase for myself.
The best part is that the mascara alone costs as much as I paid to have the whole box delivered… I would estimate that these items probably cost close to $200 if all purchased separately, so I feel like I got the good end of the deal.
I’m loving this. It’s like getting an unexpected gift from your friends in New York, if your friends in New York were the gals from Sex and the City.
.
I don’t usually advertise products here, but I love this service so much that I want to share it with any of you who also might like a fashionable little gift-giving penpal of your very own.

I’m stuck in a funk right now, too. Not even my Birchbox cheered me up, though (similar to POPSUGAR, but not as good, it looks like). Maybe I’ll feel better once all my new clothes get here. 😉 I’m glad you’re feeling better!
